COVID-19 CARES Act - Public Notification
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) (Public Law 116-136) made available $5 billion in supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding and $1 billion in supplemental Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funding to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The City of Lynn has been awarded $1,456,642 in supplemental (CDBG-CV) funds and $751,083 in supplemental (ESG-CV) funds to address the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and businesses within the community. Collectively, this funding may be used to fund a variety of eligible activities designed for the aforementioned purpose, and may include: acquisition, construction, reconstruction, or installation of public works, facilities, and site improvements; rehabilitation of buildings and improvements; provision of assistance to private, for-profit entities to carry out an economic development project; provision of assistance to microenterprises; selective public service activities; and limited planning initiatives. |

Lynn Library Digital Heritage Collection
The Lynn Public Library's Digital Heritage Collection presents historical photographs relating the history of our community. Lynn was settled by colonists in 1629 on land that originally included what is today Swampscott, Nahant, Lynnfield and Saugus. The Lynn Public Library has a large and varied collection of historic images divided among several collections.
Inventor of the Shoe-lasting Machine
Jan Matzeliger not only revolutionized the shoe industry but made Lynn, the "shoe capital of the world. Colonial Lynn was a major part of shoe-making in 1635, and tannery industries of the early U.S. colonies, which reportedly includes the boots worn by Continental Army soldiers during the Revolutionary War. This historic theme is reflected in the city seal, which features a colonial boot.

Lynn Shore Drive History | The Metropolitan District Commission acquired private properties in the early 1900's in order to create the two abutting reservations along the present day Lynn Shore Drive. Many buildings, including Samuel Soule's 1855 Hotel Nahant, were removed in order to assure public access, protect important natural features and provide open space.
